Twill Gamp on Eight Shafts Part Two

I’ve continued to work on my gamp at a snail’s pace. What can I say life gets in the way!

My son and his GF are arriving today from Vancouver. We are a short stopover on their drive to Ontario so that his GF can leave her car and belongings at her parents as she is on her way to Afghanistan. She will be working for Services Canada at our base in Kandahar, so this is a bittersweet day for us as it may be a while till we see her again. Here's the gamp so far....
M&W treadled Rosepath is not very remarkable.Snowflake treadled Rosepath has a bit more potential.Rosepath as drawn in is simply lovely!Herringbone treadled Rosepath, hmmm not so much. M&W treadled Broken Twill is a firm twill. Snowflake treadled Broken Twill is not very much to look at.Rosepath treadled Broken Twill is interesting.Herringbone treadled Broken Twill is surprisingly pretty.I received this beautifully woven sample in the mail on Monday. I sent this 4 shaft draft to Dorothy at Christmas as she had expressed an interest in my 4 shaft shadow weave draft and knowing that Dorothy likes complicated twill patterns I popped this in a card and …Wow, it really paid off in spades! I now have this wonderful piece to add to my Sample binder. I love that this blog has put me in touch with some wonderful people and I truly appreciate it.

Thank you for showing all those samples! It's interesting how important the treadling is and how with some treadlings the pattern just kind of vanishes. You were really lucky to get this lovely sample!
It finally snows here, so hopefully we can go skiing soon.

It's funny that some that you said weren't interesting were to me! The right colors and yarn, and they could be very sexy! I want to try a gamp, too, now!

It's really interesting to see your samples up close like this. I'm such a fan of rosepath that some of the choices that you didn't like, I thought were cool.

I was thinking that the drive to Ontario sounded long, until I read that your sons GF is heading to Afghanistan. That really is a world away in so many ways. I hope that her work goes well and that everyone stays safe.

Lynnette - I am so amazed to find my little sample embedded in your blog !! Thank you for that surprise !
The samples look really interesting and such a variety of stitches, what patience to do all of that !
Hope all goes well with the trip to Afghanistan, what a worrying time for you all. Hopefully there will be a way for her to keep in touch.

Do you change the tie-up between each sample? I dread tie-up changes like the plague.

Hi Sharon,

Each block is threaded in a different pattern and separated by 4 twill ends in a different colour. The threading remains the same throughout the piece. I just change the treadling for each of the 8 blocks. So what you get is 32 blocks of twill, each different. It's kind of fun to see what you get with some of the weirder combinations.

It is nice to see this sampler growing, makes me want to start one too. (on that saturday that lasts 7 days) :)
I do hope your son's girlfriend (and all the others) stay safe.
